Some Facts

EAPA is the European Trade Association representing the industries involved in the manufacture of bituminous mixtures and the companies engaged in asphalt road construction and maintenance.

Organisation

The organisation was founded in 1973. A permanent office has been situated in Breukelen, The Netherlands, since 1990.

Key Figures from the European Asphalt Industry

The production of warm mixtures is approximately 300 million tonnes and of cold mixtures approximately 5 million tonnes.

Over 90% of the total road network has an asphalt surface and the product is 100% recyclable.

There are over 4,000 production sites in Europe and over 10,000 companies are involved in production and/or laying of the asphalt. 90% of the companies can be classified as Small and Medium sized Enterprises.

Aims and Objectives

The main aims of EAPA are:

• To operate as a European industry organisation and represent the views of its members by being the acknowledged focal point of communication between the industry, European institutions and industry related organisations at the European level.
• To have a substantial input to and impact on European legislation and regulation affecting the industry, by taking a pro-active approach in presenting the industry’s position on relevant issues.
• To promote the effective use of asphalt in the construction and maintenance of roads throughout Europe.
• To encourage members to ensure that the manufacture and use of all asphalt are of high quality and that they enhance the environmental image of asphalt.
• To seek opportunities in partnership with like-minded associations and public agencies to improve information deliveries to members, clients and end-users.
• To sustain a clear and positive image of asphalt pavements and of the European asphalt industry, through a focused campaign.
• To increase the EAPA representation of the asphalt industry by expanding the membership, and involving the membership in the Association’s activities.
• To develop and exchange information and stimulate Research and Development on all aspects of the asphalt industry and to execute common projects, maximising and optimising resources.

Activities

The aims and objectives are achieved by the following means:

• By executing joint projects.
• Through contact with the European Commission and its executive organisations and regular discussions and meetings with European institutions and like-minded organisations.
• Through committee work.
• Through Publications.
• Through Congresses and Symposia.
• Through participation in European Research and Development programs.
• Through participation in CEN-activities in connection with the European standardisation work.
• Through collection and distribution of statistical data.
• Via the EAPA website.

Organisation

L’organisation a été fondée en 1973 et depuis 1990 elle dispose d’une représentation permanente et d’un secrétariat général situé à Breukelen aux Pays-Bas.

EAPA ist der europäische Verband der Industriezweige, die Asphalt herstellen, Asphaltstraßen bauen und unterhalten.

Organisation

Die organisation wurde 1973 gegründet. Die Geschäftsstelle befindet sich set 1990 in Breukelen in den Niederlanden.

Schüsselzahlen der Asphaltindustrie

Die produktion von Heißasphalt liegt bei ungefähr 300 Millionen Tonnen, die von Kaltasphalt bei annähernd 5 Millionen Tonnen pro Jahr.

Über 90% des gesamten europäischen Straßennetzes ist in Asphaltbauweise gebaut; Asphalt ist 100% wiederverwertbar.

Es gibt über 4.000 Asphaltmischanlagen in Europa und über 10.000 Unternehmen, die Asphalt herstellen und/oder einbauen. 90% dieser Unternehmen sind kleine und mittlere Firmen.

Ziele der EAPA

Die Hauptziele der EAPA sind:

• Als europaweiter Verband die Interessen ihrer Mitglieder zu vertreten und zur Geltung zu bringen, wobei die EAPA der anerkannte Schnittstelle der Kommunikation zwischen Industrie, europäischen Institutionen und industrieverbundenen Organisationen in Europa ist.
• Das Erarbeiten von sachlichen Beiträgen und die Einflußnahme auf europäische Regelungen, die die Asphaltindustrie betreffen, indem die EAPA aktiv die Industrie-Positionen zu relevanten Themen darstellt.
• Die Unterstützung des Einsatzes von Asphalt bei Bau und Unterhaltung von Straßen in ganz Europa.
• Das Anhalten der Mitglieder zur hohen Qualität bei Herstellung und Einbau von Asphalt sowie die Verbesserung der Information für Mitglieder, Kunden und Endnutzer.
• Das positive Image des Asphalts und der europäischen Asphaltindustrie zu verbessern.
• Das Erarbeiten und Austauschen von Informationen sowie das Fördern von Forschung und Entwicklung in allen bereichen der Asphaltindustrie sowie das Ausführen von gemeinsamen Projekten.

Aktivitäten

Die Ziele sollen auf folgende Art erreicht werden:

• Durch Ausführung gemeinsamer Projekte.
• Durch Kontakt mit der europäischen Kommission und ihren ausführenden Organen sowie regelmäßige Diskussionen und Treffen mit europäischen Institutionen und befreundeten Organisationen.
• Durch Tätigkeit von Arbeitsgruppen.
• Durch Veröffentlichungen.
• Durch Kongresse und Symposien.
• Durch Teilnahme an europäischen Forschungs- und Entwicklungsprogrammen.
• Durch Mitarbeit der Europäischen Normung im CEN (Europäisches Komitee für Normung) in Verbindung mit der Arbeit für die Europäische Normung.
